AKSS (Anchalika Kunjeswari Sanskrutika Sansad), founded in 1978. In order to meet the menace of a severe flood disaster in 1978 causing massive destruction to human & cattle lives, crops and communication. In this hour of agony and grief group of young college going students having energetic voluntary spirit and dedication came forward to serve the shelter less, hungry, flood victims of Kanas Block of Puri District with inspiration of Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA).Then this group started relief activities with cooperation of CASA. To realize the commitment and dedication of this young group, Catholic Charities (Jatni), Catholic Relief Services (Calcutta) cooperated us to minimize the sufferings of innocent disaster victims. Just after one year the same youths were taken oath and formed in the name of Anchalika Kunjeswari Sanskrutika Sansad. In 1979 it was registered as a non-governmental, non-profit making, non- political, non-secretarial and non-religious organization under the Indian Societies Registration Act.1860, based on the philosophy of love & compassion, sacrifice & dedication, transparency & commitment. Thus initial focus was to share the sufferings of natural disaster victims through immediate relief activities which are continuing with other disaster management programmes.
AKSS is working in mission mode to establish a society founded on the values of Equality, Justice and Peace. Then it starts to work to establish an equitable society, eliminating the root cause of disparity, deprivation, poverty, inequality inhumanity and ill health.We believe that ‘development’ is a dynamic process on which people should not be treated as beneficiary of sustainable developmental activities rather should be active participants of the programme intervention. Thus AKSS tried its level best to make all the developmental intervention as “Peoples” programme which will enable them to fulfillment of their aspiration, requirement and needs through their own ways and means.
Today its primary objectives are to strengthening the marginalized communities irrespective of religion, ethnic caste, creed, colour and political affiliation. Henceforth, AKSS has given highest priority on animation of the community for sensitization, community empowerment for capacity building, community involvement for participation, community organization for organized power, sustainable development initiative & social equity, Humanitarian Response, strengthening of human potentialities, skill & knowledge.
AKSS present intervention are in the areas of Disaster Risk Reduction & Emergency Response, Sustainable Livelihood & Food Security, Women & Child Development, WASH, Climate Change & Environment, Natural Resources Management, Microfinance, Human Rights, Health & Education, Disable & Elderly Care, Peoples Organization building and Animal Welfare.
