Outbreak of the novel corona virus disease-COVID-19 has been identified as an unprecedented global crisis. This Pandemic is ravaging the world breaking all the past disaster records. The COVID-19 has become a pandemic which is threatening the whole of humanity, affecting and killing the millions of the people. Rapid spared and lack of health facilities as well as vaccines has made it difficult to stop this dangerous killer disease.
Hence, to fight against COVID-19 pandemic & to protect the country from virulent killer virus Corona, the Govt. of India clamped a national LOCK DOWN on 24 March,2020, where as the Govt. of Odisha was declared state LOCK DOWN from 22nd March,2020. The both national & state Govt. lock-down declaration has become significantly use full to breaking the spread of the virus and preventing the dreadful community spread. Amidst the lockdown, thousands of vulnerable communities are spending their lives with misery. Off course Govt. is taking appropriate measures providing rice, ration with one thousand rupees to below poverty families, but the need is immense. The lives and livelihood of migrant & bonded laborer , Daily wage earners, Agriculture laborer, small farmers, Pity shopkeeper, Women, Elderly, SC/ST, Widows are in endangered condition. Many of them are staring at starvation. Especially, situation of the people of coastal districts of Odisha are more pathetic and painful because of they were severely suffered by Odisha Severe Cyclone FANI just before twelve months ago.
IMMEDIATE REQUIREMENT
• Hygiene kits (Masks,Hand Sanitizers, Soaps, Gloves, Sanitary Napkins, Tooth brush and Paste, Hand washing Liquid and Shaving kits).
• Safety Kits including Protective Gears/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the frontline health workers and caregivers.
• Food kits including dal ,oil, salt, biscuits
• Installation of WASH stations at quarantine centres, Panchayat, Health Centres, and at important places at community level.
AKSS RESPONSE AS ON 25th APRIL
1. FORMATION OF COVID 19 FIGHTER TEAM :
To fight against corona virus a COVID-19 fighter team was formed consisting of twenty seven experience and dedicated members, staff, volunteers.
2. AWERNESS CAMPAIGNS AND HEALTH EDUCATION :
After getting permission of administration and consultation with concerned block BDO, we have been promoting and popularizing prevention measures like social distancing, disinfection, personal hygiene practices giving importance on use of Masks, Soaps and Sanitizers. Special health/education tips are being provided to vulnerable community.
3. PROTECTION AND PREVENTION:
Very soon protection and prevention majors are being undertaken by our organization. Prevention and protection solutions like masks, sanitizers, hygiene kits are still not available for the village poor due to issues of accessibility and affordability. Utilizing our limited resources and support of some individual donors & member, we have started manufacturing of Masks and distributing to vulnerable communities with Soaps, Sanitizer and hygiene kits. Off course it is not all sufficient and more such items are required.
4. DISTRIBUTION OF HYGIENE KITS
As per the request of Govt administration, we have distributed seven thousands of Masks, Soaps, Sanitizers, Tooth pastes, Tooth Brushes to marginal communities of unserved area distributed. 5. DEMONSTRATION OF PREPARING OF HAND SANITIZER:
To prevent and protect from killer virus Corona use of hand sanitizer is one of the major components as per WHO. It is also required for all times for the community. Due to issues of non availability, accessibility and affordability to the rural village people, we are demonstrating of preparing of non alcoholic hand sanitizer utilizing local available resources and alcoholic(80%) hand sanitizer. Such demonstration camps are continuing in remote villages.
6. SUPPORT AND SHARING:
Need assessment report sharing with NGOs, Govt. administration and Journalists is continuing. We have offered to undertake management activities of quarantine centers of Govt. Masks, hygiene kits have also distributed to health workers, Govt. staff and other fighters of COVID-19 Pandemic.
7. ANIMAL CARE AND FEEDING
We are intervened to take care of, disable and desolated animals such as street dogs, cows and bullocks. Feeding programmes are continuing in different places.
